Yes, it's true that for only a few people, speed was slow with calendar navigation.
It seems to be a hosting problem in some case. And an other extension that slow the site, in other issue.
As my test, it was not the template for a user that slow the navigation, as on my server, everything was normal.
So, you can have a look at your cache system too. Do you use a plugin for cache active ? (because navigation in calendar is made with Ajax, and with cache enable, it can make it very slow...)
Look at your cache general options, and at your cache plugin. Turn off all, and emptied your browser cache too.
And then, make a test to see if it's better.
If it's still slow, that may be an other extension (maybe a plugin or module) that slowed your website. (so try to disabled all other extension not joomla core, and make this test too)
